Developed in the early 90’s to replace the English FA’s Coco Cola Super Skills award scheme for an English professional soccer/football club. The Challenge is a progressive grass roots player development program for players aged 2-12 years of age. Delivered by qualified coaches, the Challenge provides a structured player development curriculum that focuses primary on the technical aspect of the game in a fun training environment that is conducive to learning.
Ages 2-3.
Designed for a young players first introduction to the wonderful game of soccer. Parents work alongside the coach to create a fun learning environment. Players will be awarded with celebratory star awards at the end of every session for their achievements.
Ages 3-5
As in the name, the FUNdamental Challenge introduces the player to the fundamental skills of the game in a fun learning environment. In addition to working on developing basic skills, players will be introduced to small-sided games. At the end of every session each player will receive feedback on their progress.
Ages 6-8
For players more serious about developing their soccer/football skills. Players focus on developing their technical skills in a fun environment with option to participate in technical challenges (proficiency test) to chart their progress. In addition, at the end of every training session every player will receive feedback on their progress.
Ages 9+
While still focusing on technical development, this challenge now incorporates developing the players tactical (decision making) part of the game. Players will participate in technical/tactical training sessions with the coaching staff providing feedback to individual players on their progress after each session. Plus, players will have the ability to participate in the technical challenges (proficiency test) to chart their technical progress.
The Challenge’s fun small-sided game format. At the end of every training session, teams will be formed and the players will play 4v4 format. Though playing in a team format, players will receive points individually for their teams and their own personal performance.
Between training session players will be set mini challenges to complete at home (optional). Players will receive a series short instructional videos showing skills to practice at home on their own to help with their development.
